To search for treasure, the player must first draw a Treasure Map Card from the deck. This card tells them where treasure can be found on the shipboard. It also tells them what type of treasure it is (gold coins, jewels, or pirate treasure). The player then draws 3 Treasure Cards from their deck and selects one to keep. They then place all other Treasure Cards back in the deck face down. If they choose to keep the Pirate Treasure Card, they must place it in front of them face up; if they choose not to keep it, they place it back in the deck face down. If at any time during their turn they reveal 2 identical Treasure Cards while searching for treasure (e.g., 2 gold coins), they must immediately stop searching for treasure and take whatever treasure is shown on those cards instead (4 gold coins if both cards are gold coins).
